In the heart of Lincoln Park, Chicago, where the city’s vibrant pulse meets the calm of nature, there’s Nevaeh—a young woman caught in life’s noise. Like so many of us, she’s grappling with the question that tugs at the core of existence: Who am I? It’s not a quiet or facile question; it churns, pushes, and pulls, leaving her suspended between the reality of her physical self and the whirlwind of her inner thoughts. Feeling more adrift than ever, Nevaeh hears about a Philosopher named Joe Bandra, known simply as “J.” It is believed that he’s cracked the code of existence, uncovered life’s secrets, and lives a simple, insightful existence by Salem Lakes, just outside Antioch, Illinois. J is somewhat of an unconventional philosopher with a relaxed presence, known for his piercing clarity in seeing through life’s illusions. Nevaeh places a phone call to The Philosopher and receives an invitation to visit. With no other path calling, Nevaeh boards a train, hopeful that this stranger might help her make sense of the chaos within.
Stepping off the train, she finds J waiting, his smile warm and strangely familiar, like a friend she hasn’t met yet. He’s not what she expected—sharp-eyed, radiating calm, and driving a classic Rolls Royce that speaks of a “sage with style.” They drive to his lakeside home, a place brimming with books and artifacts from around the world. As they settle by the water, Nevaeh lets it all spill out—her search for identity, the tug-of-war between her mind and emotions. The Philosopher listens quietly, offering no quick fixes, only a patience that feels endless.
This is Nevaeh’s journey—a young woman stepping into the unknown, seeking the truth behind the layers of who she believes she is. It’s a story for all of us, really, as we each confront our own versions of that timeless question: Who am I? As her path unfolds, Nevaeh starts to see that beneath all the mental noise lies a deeper truth—one that connects beyond the mind’s chatter into something unified, something whole. And through her journey, we will see a mirror of our own quest for meaning.

"Reading this book—more than once—was a truly eye-opening experience. It answered my own questions about who we are. Learned much from its insights, and I hope that others will find it’s an oasis for them too—an oasis with an ocean in it.”
—Dr. Susan Swartwout, author of Odd Beauty, Strange Fruit
"Finding Nevaeh is not just a book—it’s a mirror. Through the beautifully layered conversations between Nevaeh and The Philosopher, I felt like I was listening to my own inner voice—the one that’s been quietly asking, “Who am I?” for years. Joe Bandra has crafted a rare gem: a book that speaks both to the mind and the heart. The blend of humor, raw honesty, and profound spiritual insight makes this an unforgettable guide for anyone seeking more than surface-level answers. It's poetic, vulnerable, and surprisingly relatable. A must-read for truth seekers and curious souls alike."

"This book surprised me. It’s not your typical self-help manual or preachy spiritual treatise. Finding Nevaeh dives deep into the messiness of being human, yet somehow lifts you up into something far beyond it. The dialogue format works beautifully—Nevaeh’s sarcasm, confusion, and occasional breakdowns make her utterly real. The Philosopher, on the other hand, is equal parts wise, mysterious, and compassionate. Together, they dismantle illusions, one conversation at a time. If you’ve ever felt stuck between who you think you are and who you really are, this book will speak directly to your soul."
—Dr. Moses B., Leicester, UK
"I laughed, I cried, I questioned everything—then I laughed again. Joe Bandra has pulled off something magical with Finding Nevaeh. This book doesn’t just teach; it transforms. It’s philosophical wisdom wrapped in real talk, cosmic jokes, and moments so honest they sting in the best way. Nevaeh’s journey is all of our journeys. And The Philosopher? Let’s just say I’d happily give up therapy if I could sit with him for coffee once a week. This isn’t just a book—it’s a wake-up call disguised as a late-night conversation with your higher self. Highly recommend."
—C. Jay, Winnipeg, Canada
Joe Bandra is an unconventional philosopher, a guide with a punchline and a seeker who never stops asking the big questions. With a background in medical physics, healthcare leadership, yoga, and meditation, Joe blends scientific clarity with spiritual depth, offering a rare combination of grounded wisdom, sharp insight, and disarming humor. Educated at both Stanford and Harvard Universities, he brings a rigorous academic foundation to his explorations of self-inquiry and consciousness. For over two decades, Joe has walked alongside others through the raw terrain of personal transformation, understanding both the ache of human struggle and the quiet joy of returning to what’s always been present—the stillness of our true self.
In Finding Nevaeh, Joe weaves storytelling, lived experience, and philosophical inquiry into a journey that is both emotionally honest and spiritually profound. The book’s fictional guide, “The Philosopher,” mirrors Joe’s own approach—not through dogma but through dialogue, not with rigid answers but with questions that invite readers to awaken from the illusion of separation. His teachings draw from traditions such as Advaita Vedanta, Christian mysticism, Sufism, Buddhism, and modern nondualism, all while staying rooted in the everyday messiness of identity, ego, grief, love, fear, and the deep longing to come home to wholeness. For Joe, philosophy isn’t merely something to be studied—it’s a life to be lived, a daily practice of peeling back illusion and remembering the quiet simplicity of being.
He lives near Antioch, Illinois, where conversations run deep, the coffee is strong, and every journey home begins with a single, silent moment of presence.
